Scandinavian sommerso art glass is a type of glass art that originated in Finland in the 1950s. It is characterized by its use of bright colors, swirling patterns, and organic shapes. It is interesting to note that while being named after the Italian island of Murano, sommerso glass was developed by a group of Finnish glass artists (including Helena Tynell and Kaj Francka) making it a distinctly Finnish art form. Measuring 9" by 4" in diameter and in beautiful condition, the example here is a golden amber—really, quite lovely.
